Mike Shanahan hosting Donald Trump fundraiser with Pete Coors

Mike Shanahan is joining forces with beer man Pete Coors and others to host a fundraiser for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday.

Per Mark Matthews of the Denver Post, this is no beer and brats affair, either.

“It’s at least $10,000 per couple to attend the lunch hobnob at Shanahan’s Denver home; a cool $50,000 will get couples a photo and VIP meeting with Trump, according to the invitation.”

Trump badly needs the money. Per the report, he has only “$1.3 million cash on hand, far less than the $42.5 million war chest compiled by Hillary Clinton, his Democratic rival.”

Trump is also facing a deficit in the latest polls. The Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that Clinton currently holds a 46-to-41 percent edge over Trump. Interestingly, this is far better than expected after the Republican’s rocky month of June, especially considering the “race is essentially tied when third-party candidates are included,” per the report.

“Donald Trump has had the worst month one can imagine, but Clinton’s negatives are so high the net impact on the ballot is almost invisible,” said Bill McInturff, a Republican pollster who conducted the survey with Democratic pollster Fred Yang.

With powerful friends like Coors, Shanahan and Larry Mizel, a prominent Colorado political donor, Trump will likely continue holding steady as we move past the summer months and into the fall.
