Mike McCarthy on Mason Crosby: ‘I still believe in him’

Mason Crosby had the worst game of his career on Sunday, as his four missed field goals and missed extra point had a big hand in the loss suffered by the Green Bay Packers.

On Monday, head coach Mike McCarthy threw his support behind the embattled kicker in a big way.

“He’s a proven, highly successful kicker. I still believe in him.” McCarthy said, per Ryan Wood of the Green Bay Press Gazette. “He had a tremendous training camp. He was striking the ball as well as I can recall.”

Crosby ended up costing Green Bay 13 points in a game that was decided by by eight points. So clearly, his mistakes were costly.

However, it’s just as clear that he has the backing of his coach. Aaron Rodgers also showed how much he values Crosby on Sunday during the game after he missed his fourth field goal, late in the fourth quarter.

Before Sunday’s disaster, Crosby had made 10-of-11 field goals on the season and 8-of-9 extra points.
