The Oakland Raiders hired former NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock to be their next general manager, surprising many people in the process.
On Monday during his introductory press conference he was asked whether Derek Carr is the team’s long-term answer at quarterback. His answer was a bit eye-opening, as Mayock wouldn’t throw his support behind Carr.

Carr did have a statistically solid season, completing 68.9 percent of his passes (career high) for 4,049 yards with 19 touchdowns. However, he remains one of the more frustrating quarterbacks to study because of his proclivity for throwing passes that end up being handled in some way by the opposing team.
On Sunday in the team’s final game, he threw one of the most mystifying pick-sixes you’re ever going to see, finishing the season on a sour note for sure.
Given the way the team has gotten rid of other top talent this year, nobody should be surprised if Oakland doesn’t explore options to move on from Carr heading into 2019, especially with the No. 4 overall pick in hand.
Carr signed a massive long-term extension with Oakland in 2017. He still has four years left on the deal and is set to make $22.5 million in 2019.
