Michigan rebounds with rout of Southern Utah

Hunter Dickinson had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead Michigan to an 87-50 home win over Southern Utah on Saturday.

DeVante’ Jones had 13 points and six assists for Michigan (7-4), which rebounded from a home loss to Minnesota a week prior.

The Wolverines shot 56.3 percent from the field overall, 38.9 percent from 3-point range and dominated the boards, outrebounding a much smaller Southern Utah team by a 44-27 margin.

Michigan collected 18 assists as a team, saw 12 different players score in the game and scored at least 87 points in a game for the third time this year.

Dre Marin scored 12 points and Maizen Fausett added nine points to lead Southern Utah, which had a six-game winning streak snapped.

The Thunderbirds shot 32.8 percent from the field overall and 4 of 23 from 3-point range.

Leading 49-20 at halftime after making 21 of 33 field-goal attempts in the first half, Michigan continued to stay hot, building a 35-point lead at 63-28 with 12:54 left in the game following a jumper by Moussa Diabate.

Southern Utah (7-4) made a small run, closing to within 28 points at 69-41 with 6:08 left after a basket by Aanen Moody, but by then it was too little, too late for the Thunderbirds.

Michigan never trailed by less than 30 points for the final 5:49 of the game.

The Wolverines ended up building their lead to as many as 38 points at 85-47 with 1:43 remaining.

Michigan started to take control early, going on a 12-0 run to take a 23-10 lead with 11:48 remaining in the first half.

The Wolverines then went up by 17 at 31-14 with 8:37 left in the first half following a 3-pointer by Jones, and then went on a 14-0 run to take a 45-16 lead with 2:12 remaining until halftime following a layup by Caleb Houstan.
