It appears that the University of Michigan didn’t going to go down without a fight in its quest to keep coach Jim Harbaugh.

According to a report from On3, Michigan proposed to Harbaugh an offer to make him the highest-paid coach in college football.

If Harbaugh had accepted the offer, the report said, Michigan has put in an escalator that would continually keep him as the highest-paid coach, even if other college football coaches get bigger contracts.

Also in the proposed contract, the report said, is language that would protect Harbaugh against the NCAA, which has been “aggressive.”

Harbaugh accepted the job to coach the Los Angeles Chargers Wednesday night, but Michigan tried a Hail Mary to keep him around.
