After months of NFL inactivity for free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick, the Seattle Seahawks have expressed interest in his services.
Should a marriage come together between the two parties, Kap already has one fan — outspoken Seahawks defensive end, Michael Bennett.
Bennett even went as far as to say that Seattle would be the “perfect place” for Kaepernick.
“I think a person that’s dedicating their life to creating change, why wouldn’t you want that type of leadership in your locker room?” Bennett said, per Sheil Kapadia of ESPN. “Why wouldn’t you want a young person that’s dealt with people wanting to kill him because of his choices in life? So I don’t know why people feel like that is a problem.”
Well, there we have it. Bennett wants to join forces with the quarterback he has sacked plenty of times in the past when Kaepernick was with the San Francisco 49ers.
The Seahawks are the first team to speak up about any potential interest in Kaepernick. He would be an upgrade in backup depth behind Russell Wilson. Keep in mind, head coach Pete Carroll said the team is considering Robert Griffin III as well.
The Seahawks must find somebody to add to the mix instead of Trevone Boykin, who was arrested twice last year.
If the Seahawks take Bennett’s endorsement seriously and actually offer Kap a job, it will be interesting to see how he proceeds from there. Kaepernick recently said he still wants to play football, and if he is willing to take a job as a backup to a former NFC West rival team, Seattle make perfect sense for both parties.
