The Seattle Seahawks selected three safeties in this year’s draft. Outside of wanting to add depth to that position, general manager John Schneider and Co. were also potentially preparing for a future without Pro Bowl strong safety Kam Chancellor.
Chancellor, 29, is entering the final year of his contract and is looking for a raise from the $6.8 million base salary he’s set to earn in 2017.
Now, speaking up about the status of his teammate’s contract, defensive end Michael Bennett is urging the Seahawks to pay Chancellor.

Bennett himself just signed a three-year, $30 million extension with Seattle last December. Now that his contract is taken care of, he’s looking out for a teammate that’s also deserving of a new deal.
Chancellor is coming off a 2016 campaign that saw him record 71 tackles, eight passes defended and two interceptions. Though, he missed out on the Pro Bowl for the first time in four years.
