Miami Dolphins Reportedly Shopping Mike Wallace

It does not appear the Miami Dolphins are prepared to cut their agitated and overpaid wide receiver Mike Wallace quite yet. According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the Dolphins may decide to shop him in a trade.

The reports goes on to indicate that it’s not all about Wallace’s lack of on-field production. The team is said to be growing tired of his temperament in the locker room.

Unfortunately, what we may remember most about Wallace’s potentially short-lived tenure in Miami is when he became upset and abruptly removed himself during the last game of the team’s season against the New York Jets this past December. Wallace’s actions ignited a shouting match with coach Joe Philbin and were not appreciated by his teammates.

Wallace, who has had trouble meshing with quarterback Ryan Tannehill over the past two years, is due $9.85 million in 2015 as part of a five-year, $60 million deal he signed back in 2013. Wallace’s inflated salary also counts for $12.1 million against the Dolphins’ salary cap for the upcoming season.

With his lofty price tag and negative attitude, there are not likely going to be many takers for Wallace considering the deep pool of free-agent wide receivers that will potentially be available next month.

Additionally, Baltimore Ravens’ owner Steve Bisciotti may have already given us a sample size of what others around the league think of Wallace.

Mike Wallace got $10 million. I don’t think anyone thinks that was a good deal.

Over Wallace’s two seasons in Miami, he has yet to produce a 1,000-yard campaign. With a total of 1,792 yards and 15 touchdowns during that span, Wallace is not exactly playing up to the level of his contract.

When considering all the negatives that surround Wallace as the team prepares to shop him, he holds about as much trade appeal as offering ice to an Eskimo.
