The New York Mets have reportedly found their replacement for Carlos Beltran. The Mets are set to hire Luis Rojas to become the Mets’ manager, per The Athletic’s Tim Britton.
The 38-year-old was interviewed when the position first opened up this offseason before the club ultimately decided to hire Beltran. Just two months after being hired, Beltran stepped down for his role in the Houston Astros’ electronic sign-stealing in 2017.
Rojas, the son of Felipe Alou, has served as a manager in the Dominican Winter League for Years. He won a championship with Leones Del Escogido in 2015 and 2016 and joined New York’s staff this past season.
New York focused on candidates inside the organization to replace Beltran. Hensley Meulens and Tony DeFrancesco were also given significant consideration for the position. Meulens is also reportedly receiving considering to replace Alex Cora as the Boston Red Sox manager.
Now with a new manager in place, the Mets can move forward with the start of spring training just a few weeks away.
