New York Mets prospect Tim Tebow will not be getting a call to the big league club when MLB rosters expand in September.
Showing himself more than capable of performing well against top-level minor league competition, most figured the next step in Tebow’s career would be Triple-A Las Vegas before getting a taste of the majors.
Unfortunately, the former Heisman winner and Denver Broncos first-round pick suffered a broken bone in his hand over the weekend and will require surgery. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, this will sideline Tebow for the remainder of the season.
The 30-year-old outfielder was hitting at a .273 clip with six homers and 36 RBI in Double-A Binghamton prior to suffering the injury. He had posted a .319 average over the past month and was a member of the league’s All-Star squad.
Here’s to hoping that Tebow makes a full recovery and doesn’t give up his dream of playing in the majors. He’s proven himself to be a pretty darn good player.
