When New York Mets second baseman Robinson Cano went down with a torn hamstring in early August, it seemed like the eight-time All-Star would be lost for the season.

That’s not the case. Cano has done a lot of work in the rehab process behind the scenes and has shockingly been activated off the injured list in time for Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals.

Despite struggles in his first season with the Mets, Cano could play a huge role for the team down the stretch. He’s hitting just .252 with 10 homers and 32 RBI this season. However, Cano’s veteran presence could loom large.

New York enters Tuesday’s action with a 70-67 record and four games out of the final wild card spot in the National League. It’s going to have to perform at a high clip through the final three weeks of the season to have a shot at a postseason spot. Cano could help in that regard.
