Thursday night’s season opener for the Philadelphia Eagles will be as much a celebration of their first ever Super Bowl title as it will be a start to them defending said title.
Jailed the last time Philadelphia played a meaningful football game, hip-hop artist Meek Mill will be in attendance at Lincoln Financial Field with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie and Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin.
Mill made national headlines back in November of 2017 when he was sentenced to four years in prison for violating his probation.
The Philly native then became a rallying cry for those around the sports world who believe that there’s a racial double standard within the American justice system. Ultimately, the 31-year-old Mill was released from jail this past April.
More so than any other sports entity, those within the Philadelphia community backed Mill in a big way. That included Lurie, Rubin and a number of notable Eagles players.
We can just add his presence for the ceremony on Thursday evening to what will be nothing less than a massive block party in Philadelphia.
