Matthew Stafford’s wife blasts Lions, hints at trade to the Chargers

Matthew Stafford trade

Rumors have persisted over the past couple weeks that the Detroit Lions have quietly engaged in trade talks surrounding franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford.

While the Lions have denied said rumors, Stafford’s wife, Kelly, is on Instagram blasting the team and hinting at her husband playing for the Los Angeles Chargers.

That’s some rather interesting stuff from Mrs. Stafford right there. She obviously caught wind of the reports and is not too happy about the Lions reportedly looking to move on from the longtime starter.

Stafford, 32, missed the final half of last season with a back injury. He’s been in Detroit since being selected No. 1 overall back in 2009 and holds the franchise records in passing yards and passing touchdowns. It’s not necessarily that close.

Selecting No. 3 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, there’s a good chance Detroit could land one of the top quarterbacks in the class. Having committed to embattled head coach Matt Patricia, a long-term rebuild could be in the cards.

If that is indeed the case, Stafford might be better off elsewhere. And with the Chargers now looking for a new quarterback, a relocation to Los Angeles could make sense.
