Dreams really do come true.

New to the Dallas Cowboys, quarterback Matt Cassel has been well-traveled throughout the NFL over the past 11 years.

His latest stop in Dallas, for however long it lasts, appears to be Cassel’s favorite thus far. The 33 year old shared just how thrilled he is with the latest turn of events that saw him get traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Cowboys after Tony Romo got injured.

“I’m excited about a new start, obviously,” Cassel told the Star-Telegram.”

“It’s great to be wanted. It’s been a childhood dream of mine to be a Cowboy, honestly. My father grew up in West Texas, in Lubbock, and I’ve got family here, and I grew up a Dallas Cowboy fan all my life. So to actually have it come true finally and actually be here is a dream come true, and I’m really excited about it.”

Cassel was indeed wanted because the pickings for any quarterback who is healthy and somewhat serviceable were extremely slim.

As it stands, Cassel will sit at No. 3 — something which he is used to doing, behind Brandon Weeden and Kellen Moore while Romo remains sidelined with a broken clavicle. It’s likely that once Cassel learns the playbook and if Weeden falters, we could see Cassel out there slinging it around for what would be the fifth NFL team he has played for in his career.

Cassel’s most productive season was when he started in 2008 filling in for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who sustained a torn ACL. Cassel helped lead the team to 10 wins passing for 3,693 yards, 21 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.

Since then, Cassel’s performances have been all over the charts with his prior teams. It’s going to interesting to see if the Cowboys can hold their team together with the early hits they have already taken. At least we know if Weeden falters Dallas has a veteran to fall back on until Romo can come back.
