The Miami Marlins and first baseman Jesus Aguilar agreed to a one-year contract for 2022 that includes a mutual option for 2023 Tuesday, avoiding arbitration.
While the Marlins did not disclose financial terms, MLB.com reported Aguilar will make $7.3 million in 2022, and the option has a $200,000 buyout that increases to $250,000 if he makes 550 plate appearances this season.
Aguilar, 31, is entering his third season with Miami after stops with the Cleveland Indians (2014-16), Milwaukee Brewers (2017-19) and Tampa Bay Rays (2019).
Aguilar led the team in 2021 with 93 RBIs and 22 home runs, adding 23 doubles while maintaining a .261 batting average across 131 games. His season was cut short by a knee injury in early September.
The 2018 All-Star selection owns a career slash line of .260/.334/.467 with 93 home runs and 342 RBIs in 630 career games.
