When TMZ Sports reporters approached actor Mark Wahlberg in Beverly Hills, Ca. and asked him what he thought about Peyton Manning and Calvin Johnson retiring this week, the Johnson news was new to Wahlberg.

A big fan of the Patriots, Wahlberg suggested Calvin Johnson’s retirement could be a smokescreen to sign with New England, per the report.

Wahlberg wasn’t shy when he said Johnson should join a Super Bowl contending team (aka the Patriots).

“Wow, well hopefully he just did that to get out of his contract with Detroit. Then he’ll come to New England and get a ring!”

“He needs a ring! He’s too good … he’s got too much left in the tank.”

Regarding Manning, Wahlberg had kind words to say. And when asked about his favorite NFL player, Tom Brady, Wahlberg exclaimed that he has a good five-to-10 years left to play, per the report.

With Brady showing no signs of decay yet, Wahlberg’s wish for Brady to play another 10 years would have the quarterback slinging the rock until the age of 48.

When it comes to Johnson, many people share Wahlberg’s sentiment that he should try to sell his services to a more winning team with the hope of earning a ring before he hangs it up for good.

Unfortunately for Johnson fans, that doesn’t appear to be the plan, and if that were his plan, then he’d need the permission if his former team to seek a trade. Detroit still has his rights at this time and would definitely want compensation is his design was to leave for a chance at winning with another franchise.
