The Seattle Mariners claimed right-handed pitcher J.B. Bukauskas off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Outfielder Alberto Rodriguez was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

A 2017 first-round pick in the MLB draft by the Houston Astros, Bukauskas made his major league debut with the Diamondbacks on April 20, 2021. In all, he has appeared in 21 MLB games — all in 2021 — and is 2-2 with a 7.79 ERA in 17 1/3 innings.

In 2022, he missed much of the season with a grade 2 teres major muscle strain in his shoulder area. In 21 games with Triple-A Reno, the 26-year-old was 0-1 with a 2.66 ERA over 20 1/3 innings, striking out 19 and walking four.

Rodriguez, 22, appeared in 119 games with High-A Everett in 2022, batting .261 with 59 runs, 10 home runs and 46 RBIs.
