Luke Voit’s home run puts him with Yankees royalty

New York Yankees first baseman Luke Voit has been on quite a tear. It’s a run that the franchise hasn’t seen since the days of Joe DiMaggio.

With a home run on Wednesday, Voit extended his on base streak to 41 consecutive games, dating back to the end of the 2018 season. The home run also supplied Voit’s 42nd RBI in that stretch. Per Ryan M. Spaeder, no Yankee has done that since DiMaggio.

That was fairly early in DiMaggio’s career, even predating his famed 56-game hitting streak. In addition to most of DiMaggio’s career, New York has seen the likes Mickey Mantle, Yogi Berra, Roger Maris, Thurman Munson, Reggie Jackson, Dave Winfield, Don Mattingly, Derek Jeter, and Alex Rodriguez since 1937. Yet, in a Yankee uniform, none of them ever matched Voit’s achievement.

We’d say that gives him some pretty good bragging rights.
