Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James (ankle) misses San Antonio Spurs game

Lakers star LeBron James sat out Los Angeles’ road game against the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday due to right ankle soreness.

Malik Monk drew the start in place of the four-time league MVP.

James was injured Sunday as the Lakers earned their first win in three games this season, a 121-118 decision over the Memphis Grizzlies, though he remained in the game.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel said of James before the Tuesday game, “He’s just day-to-day, and he’ll get evaluated again tomorrow and see what the soreness is like and make a decision then.”

Vogel added that the club is employing “a marathon approach” regarding James’ fitness. The coach also said that the latest ailment is unrelated to the high right ankle sprain that kept James out of 26 games between March and May last season.

James, 36, is averaging 26 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists through three games this season, down from his career norms of 27 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.4 assists.
