Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Gavin Lux went down with what looked like a very awkward injury while running to third base against the San Diego Padres on Monday.
The first angle of the clip appeared like an awkward tumble while trying to simply avoid taking a baseball to the face from the Padres’ third baseman Jantzen Witte, and understandably so.
But the second angle is a little more telling. Take one look at that right ankle, and you might find yourself grabbing your own.
Considering he was carted off, it could be a pretty serious ankle injury. But we’re not going to play doctor here and start speculating. Any time you see a player go down with a non-contact injury, you just hold your breath and hope for the best.
Last season, Lux had a respectable average of .276 with an OPS of .745 in 421 at-bats.
The Dodgers took the 25-year-old versatile infielder as the 20th overall selection in the 2016 MLB Draft.
