LOOK: Rays honor Blake Bivens’ and family with patch in dugout

Just days after Tampa Bay Rays pitching prospect Blake Bivens lost three family members in a homicide, the Rays are now displaying a large patch in the home dugout to honor Bivens and his family.

The 24-year-old lost his wife, child and mother-in-law on Tuesday in a horrific tragedy that led to the cancellation of Double-A Montgomery’s doubleheader. Both the Montgomery Biscuits and Rays have since made gestures to help keep Bivens in everyone’s thoughts.

It’s a classy gesture by Tampa Bay to post the patch in the dugout. Hopefully, the organization takes the further steps to provide Bivens with all of the support he needs during this unfathomably difficult time.

Our thoughts continue to go out to Bivens and his family during this time.
