LOOK: NFL games dominated TV viewership in September

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

While there are certainly some frustrations with the league, the NFL is as popular as ever. That’s reflected in September’s viewership numbers.

The top-15 most watched television shows in the month were all NFL games.

There are some interesting notes here.

One is that the Thursday night opener between the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles is only No. 8. There’s always a lot of anticipation for that game. Additionally, it’s the only game being shown at that time. But seven more games, including three of NBC’s four other broadcasts, drew bigger numbers.

And even though this doesn’t appear to be an especially great Dallas Cowboys team, they still rake in the big numbers. All four of Dallas’ games were among the top-nine most watched in September. Additionally, both of the two most watched games featured the Cowboys.

We’re certainly ready to see what, if anything, changes in October.
