LOOK: 49ers unveil ‘The Catch’ statue

Prior to Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams, the San Francisco 49ers unveiled the long awaited “The Catch” statue depicting the touchdown pass Joe Montana threw to Dwight Clark in the 1981 NFC Championship Game.

It’s a moment that’s etched into NFL’s lure, and it gave the then-upstart 49ers their first-ever Super Bowl appearance in a win over the Cowboys.

Now, mere months after the recipient of that catch passed away, Montana and Co. were on hand to unveil the amazing tribute at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.

Clark’s death from ALS back in June hit this 49ers franchise hard. Pretty much everyone who is anyone was on hand to attend his funeral in Montana.

Immediately after, the organization announced that this statue would be unveiled during the 2018 season.

And it’s all sorts of awesome.
