The Detroit Lions were already thin up front heading into Sunday’s preseason matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. Then Kerry Hyder went down in agony.
Afterwards, head coach Jim Caldwell told reporters that Hyder had suffered “a significant Achilles injury.

This is a huge blow to Hyder, who came on strong in his second season out of Texas Tech last year. It’s also obviously a big loss for Detroit, if he’s gone for any extended period of time. Leading the team in sacks (eight), he was a dynamic situational pass rusher who was expected to be a big part of the team’s plans in 2017.
