Lions DB Glover Quin thinks ‘God meant for Jordy to get hurt’

Glover Quin

Detroit Lions safety Glover Quin has an interesting take on why Jordy Nelson was injured during Week 2 of the NFL’s preseason schedule.

He’s attributing the knee injury to a higher power.

Speaking with media about the injury, Quin said he thinks “God meant” for Nelson to be hurt.

“I hated Jordy got hurt, but in my beliefs, and the way I believe, it was — God meant for Jordy to get hurt,” said Quin, a devoted Christian (h/t MLive.com). “So if he wouldn’t have got hurt today, if he wouldn’t have played in that game, if he wouldn’t have practiced anymore, and the next time he walked on the field would have been opening day, I feel like he would have got hurt opening day.”

Quin actually believes that it’s a good thing the injury occurred in the preseason.

“…now they’ve got three weeks to make adjustments and prepare before opening day, as opposed to it happening opening day and now you’re in the season and now Jordy gets hurt.”

Whether you agree with this sentiment or not, these are the kinds of comments that should probably not be said to the media.

It’s difficult for many people—including some Christians—to get on board with the idea that God somehow has a hand in everything physical that happens in the world—let along on a football field. Sometimes things just happen, and often they are unfortunately not happy developments for those involved.

Such was the case for Nelson and the Packers. Nelson will likely face another difficult rehab after coming back from hip surgery this offseason, and the Packers will have to make do without their top receiver.
