Lindsey Vonn is one of the greatest skiers in the world, regardless of sex, and she’d love a shot at proving this point in a real competition with real stakes.
Speaking with a TMZ camera crew this weekend, Vonn revealed she’s campaigning for mixed-sex races during World Cup events.
“That’s what I’m trying to do. Not at the Olympics — for sure not.” Vonn said. “I’m trying to compete against the men eventually in the World Cup, but we’ll see if it actually happens. I don’t know if it will happen in an official World Cup capacity, but maybe we can do some sort of exhibition or something fun that accomplishes the same thing.”
A bit later on, Vonn added, “No one likes change, you know? It’ll eventually happen — it’s just, how long will it take?”
The International Ski Federation hasn’t been interested whatsoever in making anything like this happen in the past, and Vonn is likely correct alluding to the fact it might never happen during an official World Cup event.
Still, it would be awfully fun to watch Vonn and her female peers go up against some of the world’s best men, even if it’s just an exhibition. I know I’d watch, and it’s a safe bet many others would, too.
