LeGarrette Blount ejected for laying out 49ers defender over Matthew Stafford hit

Detroit Lions running back LeGarrette Blount was ejected in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers.

San Francisco’s Elijah Lee had knocked Matthew Stafford out of bounds close to the sideline. The referees correctly determined that Stafford was in bounds when Lee hit him, but Blount disagreed and knocked Lee to the ground.

For most players, we could chalk his up to getting caught up in the emotion of the game. But Blount has an unfortunate history. This dates back to his University of Oregon days when he famously punched a helmetless Boise State player after a game.

Detroit did overcome Blount’s mistake, scoring a touchdown on the same drive.
