LeGarrette Blount Denies Orchestrating Departure from Pittsburgh

New England Patriots’ running back LeGarrette Blount was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers in November, one day after he reportedly walked off he field early after receiving no carries in a win over the Tennessee Titans.

Just days later, the New England Patriots signed Blount, who now sits with a team who will play in the Super Bowl in just a few days. This led to speculation that perhaps Blount orchestrated his departure from Pittsburgh knowing he might be welcomed back in New England.

When asked on Tuesday’s Super Bowl Media Day about his exit from Pittsburgh, Blount had this to say.

You know things didn’t work out as planned.  So we decided to part ways. I ended up here and now I’m about to play in the Super Bowl.

Also asked if he planned his release from the Steelers, Blount responded with a quiet “no,” while shaking his head.

Moving on from that awkward topic, Blount sounds happy that New England gave him another opportunity.

They gave me a chance to come out here and show that I can do what I’ve been doing in this league for a couple of years. I can run the football. I was excited to become another asset to the team, another part of the team, another weapon they have. I was excited they gave me another chance to come back and be a part of what’s going on today.

Since Blount’s time in New England, he’s been an asset to the team. He recorded 148 yards and three touchdowns in the AFC Championship game and will likely play a major role in the upcoming Super Bowl.
