Why nobody will catch LeBron James as NBA all-time career-scoring leader

LeBron James: nearing scoring milestone

LeBron James’ assault on the NBA record books continues and he’s adding milestones that didn’t exist before.

James needs 296 points to reach 40,000 for his career. He would be the first player ever to score that many points.

The projection of when he will hit the milestone, using his current scoring average of 25.0 points, is right around the All-Star break.

James already has a pretty big lead in the career points record with the only other active player in the Top 10 being Kevin Durant, who is around 12,000 points behind James.

Durant is closing in on a milestone as well, the 30,000 mark. Barring injury or any other setback, Durant is on pace to hit that in the second half of next season.
