Latest Rumors & Notes on Free Agent Hakeem Nicks

Latest rumors & notes on free agent Hakeem Nicks can be found below. The wide receiver market has been somewhat quiet since the start of free agency with Eric Decker the only prized player out there to sign thus far. Will Nicks be the next receiver off the board? Check it…

I am hearing through a source close to the situation that Nicks will sign a deal with a “new” team at some point in the next 24 hours. According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson, Nicks is flying to Indianapolis and will meet with the Colts on Friday. The veteran receiver would add another great pass-catching option for Andrew Luck and Co. in Indianapolis. T.Y. Hilton had a break-out campaign in 2013 and veteran Reggie Wayne is set to return from a torn ACL he suffered last year.

Nicks would be a great fit in Carolina. It just remains to be seen whether $4.5 million will be enough to acquire his services. The Panthers released veteran Steve Smith earlier today, Brandon LaFell is a free agent and Ted Ginn signed a three-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals a mere minutes ago. Needless to say, the Panthers need to make a few moves at the wide receiver position.

The San Diego Chargers might be an under-the-radar option for Nicks as well…

Even with Keenan Allen breaking through big time last year, Philip Rivers is in need of another consistent receiving option on the outside. Teaming Nicks up with Allen would form a great 1-2 punch at wide receiver.

The San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks are also two teams to keep an eye on. Both teams are reportedly scouring the wide receiver market at this point. Seattle released Sidney Rice last month and Golden Tate left for the Detroit Lions on a five-year deal on Tuesday.

Either way, expect somewhat of a quick resolution here.
