Could This Be it for Larry Fitzgerald in a Cardinals Uniform?

Saturday could mark the last game that Arizona Cardinals’ wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald suits up wearing the team’s uniform.

It has been reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that Arizona is planning to ask Fitzgerald to take a cut in pay this season from his $15 million salary.

I’m told the ball is in his court, as far as how much he wants to accept and how willing he is to help their salary-cap situation.

Questions about the 11-year veteran have been floating around the last few weeks and reports have been conflicting. Some say that Fitzgerald could be traded and not cut, while others say that “Fitzgerald doesn’t expect to be back next season.”

Fitzgerald spoke up on his situation (via Fox Sports).

It has not crossed my mind. I’m in the midst of an opportunity that doesn’t come too often, so all my energy and everything is focused on helping my team win.

Cardinals general manager Steve Keim indicated last month that is their “intent” to have Fitzgerald retire as a member of the only team he has suited up for. However, he did add that the team has to make “good business decisions.

It will be interesting to see what happens here. But one thing is for sure. Fitzgerald will not be back at his $15 million cap figure next season.
