Landon Collins on Giants’ playoffs chance: I’ll take 1 percent

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

Despite a bleak outlook, Landon Collins and the New York Giants haven’t given up on reaching the playoffs in the 2018 NFL season.

Following the team’s victory over the San Francisco 49ers, star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. said the Giants completed win No. 1 of a needed eight-game streak. The victory moved New York to 2-7 for the season, but Collins still has hope.

“You heard what Odell said: We can make a 9-7 run,” he said, per Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com. “They gave us a one percent chance to get in the playoffs? I’ll take it.”

If you’re a Giants fan, it’s probably encouraging to hear the players remain committed to as productive a season as possible.

On the bright side, New York’s remaining slate doesn’t include any dominant teams. The Giants’ strength of schedule is the seventh-easiest in the NFC.

But you also probably recognize the improbability of the situation. New York has a lackluster offense and needed a last-minute comeback to defeat a 49ers team playing a third-string quarterback making his second career start.

Wins are wins. Context matters, too.

At this point, though, it’s better to have reached for mediocrity and failed than to never have aimed at all, right?
