While many of the NBA’s top stars have opted out of playing this summer, Irving joins quite a loaded roster. Head coach Mike Krzyzewski has also received commitments from Kevin Durant, Paul George, Kyle Lowry, Draymond Green, DeMarcus Cousins, Jimmy Butler, Carmelo Anthony, Klay Thompson, Harrison Barnes and DeAndre Jordan.
The roster is now completely filled out.
At this point, it seems safe to say that Irving would be the starting point guard when Team USA hits the court this August to take on the rest of the international teams in Rio.
Coming off a stellar showing during the NBA playoffs, Irving was particularly amazing during his teams Finals run. He averaged 27.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.1 steals during the seven-game series against the Golden State Warriors and hit the series-clinching shot over Stephen Curry in Game 7.
Irving is also quite familiar with coach Krzyzeweki’s coaching methods, having played his college ball at Duke University. He was being considered for the 2012 Olympics but ultimately was not included on that team. Now Irving will get his chance to make it two titles in one year as he tries to help the Americans bring home gold this summer.
