Kyler Murray dealing with illness, misses media session

Ben Queen-USA TODAY Sports

Kyler Murray carried a flawed team into the College Football Playoff, so Oklahoma should take every precaution to ensure he’s healthy for the Orange Bowl.

According to Tim Reynolds of the Associated Press, the junior quarterback missed a scheduled media session due to an illness.

Incidentally, the same thing happened last season with Baker Mayfield. The Heisman Trophy winner didn’t participate in media day prior to the Rose Bowl.

So, obviously, it’s a conspiracy!

In all seriousness, Oklahoma shouldn’t force Murray into an environment that could jeopardize his health if there’s an actual concern. As long as that’s true, it is what it is. Murray needs to be available for the Sooners.

Given the lack of specifics, alarm bells aren’t yet sounding. Without question, though, Murray’s availability for the Orange Bowl will be monitored as closely as that of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
