No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray is already wowing his Arizona Cardinals teammates, who say his arm strength is comparable to NFL MVP, Patrick Mahomes.

Running back David Johnson says Murray’s arm strength is a “good comparison,” to Mahomes per Bob MacManaman of the Arizona Republic. He said, “It’s high praise, but I think it’s a good comparison. Kyler’s got one heck of an arm, that’s for sure.”

Wide receiver Christian Kirk agrees: “I’ve talked about it before. Obviously, everyone knows what he can do with his legs, but what he’s able to do with his arm and just the way it comes off his hand. It’s never a duck; it’s always a spiral. It’s just so quick coming off his hands and the ball is usually never late and it’s usually never under-thrown.”

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury, who coached Mahomes at Texas Tech, also sees similarities between Murray and his former pupil. On top of arm strength, Kinsbury notes that Murray can throw from various angles thanks to his baseball background.

“He can drop it down. Pat was the same way and is the same way. They can drop it down and not lose accuracy, not lose touch. They’re so used to throwing from different platforms, different angles in baseball and it just translates over to football for them.”

Many have been enamored by the speed Murray possesses when he takes off and runs. However, it’s worth pointing out that he was one of the nation’s top pocket passers last season at Oklahoma.

As for the ability to launch it downfield with his arm, anyone who watched him throughout the season can attest to his jaw-dropping arm strength.

Whether all his talent translates to a successful NFL career remains to be seen.
