Former United States President Donald Trump is “making plans” to attend the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday according to Charlotte Motor Speedway general manager Greg Walter.
“We are hearing that the 45th president of the United States is making plans to attend our race this weekend,” Walter told Erik Spanberg of the Charlotte Business Journal.
Trump, who is once again running to become Commander in Chief, would become the first president to attend a race at the Concord, North Carolina facility. He most recently attended the Daytona 500 in 2020 while he was still in office and gave the command to fire engines.
Should he attend, that decision could complicate Kyle Larson in his attempt to run the Indianapolis 500, Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. Larson will start Indianapolis on Sunday from the middle of Row 2 and will jet from Speedway, Indiana to Concord, North Carolina between the two races.
The Indianapolis 500 will begin at 12:45, and it averages nearly a three-hour run time, meaning he could lift off from Indiana at 4 p.m. with a one-hour transit time to North Carolina. The Coca-Cola 600 is scheduled to begin at 6:18 p.m.
Where Trump makes it complicated is that airspace around and over Charlotte Motor Speedway could be restricted while the former president and presumptive Republican candidate is on the grounds.
“No person may operate an aircraft over or in the vicinity of any area to be visited or traveled by the President, the Vice President, or other public figures contrary to the restrictions established by the FAA and published in a NOTAM,” the Federal Aviation Administration’s website reads.
