Knicks GM: No timetable for Kristaps Porzingis’ return from ACL injury

When New York Knicks franchise cornerstone Kristaps Porzingis suffered a torn left ACL back in February, it was pretty much the death knell for the team’s season.

New York might not have had any real playoff aspirations, but continuing to see Porzingis grow with the team was important.

Now, with what promises to be an eventful summer in the Big Apple looming, the Knicks themselves are not anywhere near knowing when Porzingis might return to basketball activities.

“I don’t think there’s a determination to be made,” Knicks GM Scott Perry said, via Newsday. “Six, seven months out, you have a better chance to have a better time window.”

Essentially, Perry is saying that they’ll know more about a potential timetable sometime in August. That’s pretty darn late in the offseason. It also means that there’s a decent chance Porzingis will miss the start of the 2018-19 season. Without a timetable, it’s just too hard to realistically expect him to be on the court to open the season.

Porzingis, 22, averaged 22.7 points and 6.6 rebounds in 48 games prior to going down to injury. His Knicks would ultimately finish the season losing 21 of their final 27 games with him sidelined.
