Knicks confirm they’ll take Zion Williamson No. 1

The drama surrounding the 2019 NBA Draft will pretty much start and end during next week’s lottery. The team that lands the No. 1 overall pick will select Duke superstar Zion Williamson.

Despite this, no team has gone on record indicating as much. That’s until New York Knicks head coach David Fizdale made said announcement on Wednesday.

“If we win the lottery, do we know who we’re taking? Yes,” Fizdale said on the Dan Patrick Show when discussing Zion Williamson.

That’s about as clear as it gets. Fizdale and Patrick then joked about Williamson taking center stage wearing a Knicks hat during next month’s draft in Brooklyn.

New York boasts the best odds to land the No. 1 pick, followed by the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers. No matter how much these teams might like Ja Morant, Williamson would be the first pick in any scenario.

For the Knicks that’s magnified by the fact that Williamson might be a draw for impending free agents such as Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.
