Klay Thompson on being upset with role: ‘That’s not true’

As was predicted, Golden State Warriors guard Klay Thompson got out of his shooting funk in a Game 5 win over the Houston Rockets Wednesday night.

Thompson scored 27 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including a 5-of-10 mark from distance in the thrilling victory.

Prior to the game, it was reported by ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith that Thompson was unhappy about his role in Golden State. Specifically, the All-Star was tired of getting the crumbs left over by Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant.

Given how happy Thompson seems in Oakland, this report came out of left field. It did, however, raise some eybrows. After all, the sharpshooter is slated to become a free agent in July.

In talking about said report after the Warriors’ big win Wednesday night, Thompson emphatically denied it.

“That’s not true,” Thompson said, via Mark Medina of the Bay Area News Group. “Have I ever indicated I was unhappy?”

A quiet presence on the Warriors, the only noise Thompson has made in recent months is the proclamation that he’d like to retire as a member of the team. Whether that happens remains to be seen.

As it relates to the short term, Thompson and Stephen Curry stepped up big time after Kevin Durant suffered a strained calf Wednesday night.

Golden State has an opportunity to close out the Rockets in Houston Friday night. That’s what Thompson and Co. are focused on.
