Klay Thompson: I want to finish my career with the Warriors

Maybe we can put one potential Golden State Warriors summertime drama to rest before the calendar hits July.

With multiple impending free agents, there could be a ton of changes in store for the two-time defending NBA champions.

One of those changes is unlikely to be All-Star guard Klay Thompson. Despite the fact that Thompson has said on more than one occasion (here and here) that he wants to remain a member of the Warriors, rumors persist that Klay might leave in free agency.

Ahead of Golden State’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday, Thompson told the broadcast group that he wants to remain a member of the Warriors for the remainder of his career. He said it in an unsolicited fashion.

“Klay Thompson told us before the game, unsolicited, that he wants to finish his career as a Warrior,” ESPN’s Dave Pasch noted.

For those close to the situation, this is nowhere near a surprise. While impending free agent Kevin Durant is somewhat new to the Warriors, Thompson and Stephen Curry helped build this thing from the ground up.

It also doesn’t hurt that the Warriors can offer Thompson more money than any other team — something they plan on doing this summer.
