Kirk Cousins has to be a Super Bowl MVP to max out his contract

The Minnesota Vikings and quarterback Kirk Cousins put pen to paper on Thursday and made his signing official. We all know that Cousins new deal consists of $84 million guaranteed over three years.

But, what we did not know is that Cousins has to become a Super Bowl MVP to completely max out his contract. Per Albert Breer of MMQB, $6 million in incentives ($2 million per season) will pay out based on the following specifics.

Talk about incentive to play his best. If the Vikings can plug Cousins in and one-up last season’s success — falling one game short of the Super Bowl — those final dollar incentives could trigger.

Cousins arrives to a Vikings organization that is not in much need of enhancement at any position. He inherits a fabulous offense and a defense that ranked No. 1 last season.

No matter how we look at it, Cousins is definitely set up for success in Minnesota. It is up to him to take advantage. And when it comes to envisioning Cousins a Super Bowl MVP, just think Nick Foles. Nobody saw that one coming last year.
