Kevin Durant unveils two basketball courts for the Oakland community

Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant is known in Oklahoma City for working to make that community better. Back in 2013, Durant donated $1 million to help with relief following a devastating tornado in the OKC area.

Now, it looks like Durant is going to bat for his adopted hometown of Oakland. Earlier this week, the former MVP unveiled two new basketball courts at the Lincoln Park Community Center in Oakland.

This is just a continuation of Durant, working with his foundation, to help build basketball courts around the United States and the world in underprivileged areas.

The Kevin Durant Charity Foundation’s theme is to build courts in order to shape futures.

“In 2015, NIKE, Inc., Kevin Durant, and the KDCF partnered to create the BUILD IT AND THEY WILL BALL Courts Renovation Initiative to increase the number of high quality basketball courts accessible to underprivileged youth across the United States and internationally,” the foundation states on its website.

Much like his former home in Oklahoma, the city of Oakland could use all the help that it can get. While Oakland itself has improved leaps and bounds from an economic and infrastructure standout, there’s a whole heck of a lot that needs to be done.

Durant is just the latest member of the Warriors to take an interest in the team’s home city. It’s one of the primary guiding principles for the organization, one that was set forth by president Rick Welts and the team’s current ownership group when they took over years back.

It’s nice to see Durant, after less than a calendar year with the team, do his part to make the Oakland area better. That’s what we would call embracing the challenges within a community and serving the public to make things better.
