We’re going to get a ton of rumors and innuendo regarding two-time reigning NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant and what his future might bring.
Durant re-signed with the defending champion Golden State Warriors this past summer. The deal was for two years with an opt out following the 2018-19 campaign. It’s an opt out Durant will almost assuredly use.
Since signing that deal, speculation has come out that Durant might jettison Northern California for the bright lights of either Los Angeles or New York.
While that’s still a possibility, he’s pumping the brakes on these rumors heading into the regular season.
“It’s just where I want to play ball at, where I’m most comfortable, where I feel most at home, and I feel at home here,” Durant said about the Warriors, via ESPN’s Nick Friedell. “I feel like I belong here. I feel like I mix with this team, I mesh with this team well.”
There is somewhat of a caveat here. KD also noted that he has no idea what free agency will bring, saying “I really don’t know what’s going to happen this summer.”
In reality, Durant seems content on remaining with the Warriors. Why not? They’ve won three of the past four NBA titles and are odds-on favorites to hoist the trophy once again this summer.
Add in a new state of the art venue in San Francisco following the 2018-19 season and Durant’s relationship with Silicon Valley, and it’s hard to see him leaving Northern California.
Even then, there is a chance Durant does in fact bolt Golden State. It all depends on how the 2018-19 season goes and whether any real controversy arises. At this point, we don’t envision that happening.
