Shooting at Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade leaves at least one dead, scores injured

The Kansas City Chiefs were celebrating their most-recent Super Bowl title in downtown on Wednesday. It was a festive environment with the players and their fans in a joyful mood.

That’s until a reported shooting took place during the parade. Initial reports indicate that said shooting occurred as the parade was taking place. It reportedly took place just outside of Union Station. According to multiple media reports, a heavy police and military presence could be found on the streets of Kansas City.

The scene was pretty chaotic.

The Kansas City Police Department released the following statement.

“Shots were fired west of Union Station near the garage and multiple people were struck. We took two armed people into custody for more investigation,” statement on shooting at Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl parade.

The police also indicated on social media that anyone near the area needs to leave the scene immediately in order to help first responders facilitate the treatement of shooting victims.

Authorities in Kansas City note that at least 22 people have been injured with multiple victims being transported to Children’s Mercy Hospital. A total of 11 of those were due to gunshot wounds, including nine children. One person is also confirmed dead.
