Kansas City Chiefs Andy Reid shuts down retirement rumors: ‘I’m not retiring’

Despite some rumors that Andy Reid would contemplate retirement if the Kansas City Chiefs won Super Bowl LVII, with another championship in the bag the 64-year-old claims he is going nowhere.

On Sunday night in Glendale, Arizona, Chiefs head coach Any Reid solidified his place as the best in the NFL today, and one of the greatest coaches of all time by guiding the team two a second Super Bowl title in four seasons. In a time where maintaining excellence is extremely difficult, Reid has built the latest dynasty team in professional football.

However, being a head coach in the United States’ most popular sport is an often thankless and grueling job that really doesn’t have an offseason. While many Kansas City Chiefs players will have a few months of freedom to celebrate their Super Bowl LVII win, it won’t be long before Reid shifts focus to the NFL Draft and free agency.

After 24 straight seasons as a head coach, it would be understandable if he wanted to go out on top, and that possibility was rumored in the hours before yesterday’s game. However, the Super Bowl-winning coach dispelled all that talk following the victory.

In a conversation last night with NFL insider Peter King for “Football Morning in America.” Reid was asked point-blank if he will retire after his team’s 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. His answer was just straight to the point.

  • Andy Reid record (Career): 247-138-1

“I’m not [retiring],” Reid said. When he was then asked “You’re gonna coach again?” by King in a clarification follow-up. The Kansas City Chiefs HC confirmed the previous answer by saying, “That’s what I plan on doing. Yeah, God help me.”

While it was not likely Andy Reid would retire, there is no better way to end a career than with a championship, so it has to be a relief to the Chief organization, players, and fan base that the future Hall-of-Famer and two-time NFL champion will be back in the fold, and likely making new hilarious State Farm commercials in the future.
