Justin Houston won’t miss season after second opinion confirms hyperextended knee

Justin Houston is expected to return to action for the Kansas City Chiefs this year, despite reports on Wednesday that stated he could miss the season with a knee injury.

The outrageously talented pass-rusher has been out since the start of December when he injured the knee against the Buffalo Bills in Week 12. As a precaution this week, Houston went to see renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion, who confirmed the team’s diagnosis of a hyperextended knee, per Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star.

Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder made it clear the team knew about the visit and that “we’re good with it.”

On Wednesday Rand Getlin of NFL Network caused quite a stir among Chiefs fans when he reported there was “some fear” Houston would miss the rest of the regular season.

Thankfully this isn’t the case, and Houston could return to action soon, as the swelling in his knee is down.

In the meantime, second-year linebacker Dee Ford will continue playing in Houston’s stead. He busted out with a three-sack performance last weekend against the San Diego Chargers in a game Kansas City absolutely had to have and is gaining valuable experience right now that will serve him and the team well in the long run.

The Chiefs are now preparing to face the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday in the midst of a seven-game winning streak that has them thinking playoffs.
