JuJu Smith-Schuster on fumble: ‘Not going to hide,’ vows ‘it won’t happen again’

JuJu Smith-Schuster

JuJu Smith-Schuster had a monster game Sunday as the Pittsburgh Steelers played the New Orleans Saints, but unfortunately a bad mistake cost his team the game.

Smith-Schuster caught his 11th pass of the game late in the fourth quarter and tried to make a bit too much happen. He was tackled by two Saints defenders, one of which ripped the football out of his hands forcing the game-sealing turnover.

Afterward, Smith-Schuster was in quite a bit of emotional agony and was seen crying on the bench.

On Monday, Smith-Schuster took to Twitter with a strong message: “When I’m at my lowest, I’m not going to hide. I’m sorry. That loss was on me. I let everyone down, it won’t happen again.”

The agony of defeat is never easy to handle. It’s even tougher when you know you’re responsible for the loss.

Smith-Schuster is handling this bitter pill with aplomb, however, and deserves credit for facing up to his mistake like a man.

It helps, perhaps, that he’s receiving support from his peers and teammates. Odell Beckham Jr. tweeted a strong message lifting him up after the fumble on Sunday.

Then on Monday Joe Haden tweeted back at Smith-Schuster, “That s-0 wasn’t on u!!! Keep your head up young KING! It hurts cause u CARE!! I’m rocking with u 4EVER!!”
