The New York Jets are bringing back veteran quarterback Josh McCown for another season, signing him to a one-year contract per his agent, Mike McCartney.

Last season, McCown went 5-8 as a starter for New York, completing 67.3 percent of his passes for 2,926 yards with 18 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He ended up suffering a season-ending injury to his hand near the end of the campaign but was easily the best quarterback on New York’s roster.

Likely, this won’t have any impact on the team’s reported interest in signing Teddy Bridgewater, who is rumored to be finalizing a deal with the Jets. There’s always a chance the Jets will sign Bridgewater and draft a passer with the No. 6 overall pick as well. This team must secure its quarterback of the future. For now, McCown is a nice bridge.
