Josh McCown Campaigns for Marc Trestman to come to Tampa Bay

The idea of working under his former coach Marc Trestman has Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh McCown campaigning for his team to pursue the recently fired former Bears coach.

McCown spoke up on Trestman’s behalf since the Buccaneers are in dire need of filling their vacated offensive coordinator position (via NFL.com).

I think Marc is an outstanding coach and an outstanding person and he has a great sense of offensive football, especially quarterback play I just know that, for me personally, I played my best football in my career under him. So obviously I have good things to say.

But I’ve been around a bunch of different guys over the course of my career, and he was probably the most detailed with game plans and things like that. I really felt like he was on top of it.

When McCown was with the Chicago Bears under Trestman, he completed 66 percent of his passes with 13 touchdowns and one interception in eight games (five starts) back in 2013. This earned him the starting job in Tampa Bay heading into the 2014 campaign.

If Trestman ends up being hired by the Buccaneers, that would make him the second head coach that came from Bears, joining current Bucs head man Lovie Smith. However at this time, Trestman isn’t the only name floating around Tampa Bay. The Bucs are reportedly showing interest in Greg Roman, Dirk Koetter and Marty Mornhinweg.

Should McCown remain the lead quarterback in Tampa Bay, hiring Trestman would make sense.
