Jordan Spieth entered Sunday’s final round at the British Open in Carnoustie tied for the lead at nine under par.
As Sunday played out across the pond, it became apparent that the reigning Open champion would not be bringing home the title for a second consecutive year.
All said, Spieth shot at five over par in the final round — finishing tied for ninth on the leader board.
It also cost the three-time major champion a pretty large wad of cash. North of $1.6 million to be exact.
Jordan Spieth began the day in line for the $1.87 million prize.
His check will end up being around $215,000.

The frustration of struggling on the green Sunday has now given in to the reality that Spieth left a whole lot of cash on the table. He has to be kicking himself in more ways than one.
In the end, Spieth actually finished one shot behind a resurgent Tiger Woods. No one could have seen that coming heading into the start of the tourney on Thursday.
Spieth’s struggles also laid the groundwork for Francesco Molinari to become the first ever Italian to win The Open Championship.
